In the eastern part of Germany is the federal state of Saxony situated and in Saxony lies Upper Lusatia. My hometown is situated in the middle of this region with its beautiful landscape and its famous half-timbered houses which only exist in that particular region.
You can find everything in this region. From beautiful calm national parks with mountain ranges, lakes and rivers and old castles. Possibly the most famous is the Saxon Switzerland National Park. It is a beautiful mountain ranges with deep green forests and clear rivers – the ideal place for hiking or maybe joining one of the boat trips where you get to know the oddest rock formations and its names, such as locomotive, oven or champignon. After your boat trip you can climb up the “stairs to heaven” a very narrow ladder built in a large crevice.
If you want to enjoy a calmer day you can also stroll through the little villages, eat in the small restaurants where fresh or smoked trouts are often a specialty, so if you like fish, you really have to try this. If you are walking through such a little village you will surely notice the special architecture of the old houses. Half-timbered houses were only built in the Upper Lusatia and so they are really unique.

Another thing you simply have to visit are castles like “Festung Königstein” with its stories of old. Also the view from the castle is fantastic. You can see the river Elbe and mountains from there.

And if all this is too much culture for you then visit the Dresden, the capital of Saxony where you will surely find something interesting to do. And there are also many sights you shouldn’t miss…
