I doubt there’s a punk fan out there who doesn’t know the name Tres Cool. Known as the drummer of the world famous band, Green Day, Tres Cool is undoubtedly one the best drummers around.

Cool was born in Frankfurt, Germany, December 9, 1972. Cool’s birth name is Franklin Edwin Wright III. He began playing drums as a kid in Willits, California when he joined a band called The Lookouts at age 12. The Lookouts were the ones who bestowed the name “Tres Cool” upon him.

Cool joined Green Day when the band lost their drummer, John Kiffmeyer. In order to keep up with the tour dates, Cool decided to drop out of college.

Tres Cool isn’t just a mere drummer for Green Day, but is also a talented singer and songwriter. He wrote and played guitar on the tracks known as “Dominated Love Slave” and “All By Myself”” from the albums Kerplunk! and Dookie. Cool also sang and created the song “DUI” (Driving Under The Influence).

While on a Washington DC radio station, Cool sang and played guitar on a song about fellatio entitled “Like A Rat Does Cheese.” That’s got to be the coolest and most vile song I’ve ever heard in my life.

Tre Cool is absolutely one of the most multi-talented drummers of the 21st century and Green Day is lucky to have him. Long live the cool that is Tres Cool!
