… From Bautzen, a little town in Saxony, Germany comes an amazing band called „Silbermond“…

About ten minutes from my hometown lays Bautzen, a little town from which a very popular German band comes.

“Silbermond” is a rock-pop band from Germany. The band was founded in 2000 as “Jast” and later renamed “Silbermond”. At first they played their songs in English, but after changing their name the band focused on German songtexts.

Silbermond plays mostly fast, instrumental rhythms and ballads though they don’t commit themselves to a certain style. The band has four members. Stefanie Kloß is the singer, Johannes Stolle plays the bass and his brother Thomas plays guitar and piano. The drummer is Andreas Nowak. The four band members met during a music project in 1998 and two years later founded their own band.

Silbermond got popular when they got the chance to perform as opening band for Jeanette Biedermann in 2004. Soon after their first single “Mach’s dir selbst” (do it yourself) was released, which is part of the debut album “Verschwende Deine Zeit” (waste your time).

Silbermond has released 3 albums so far. Their current single is called “Krieger des Lichts” (warrior of light) and their probably most famous single was “Das Beste” (the best) to which the lyrics below belong.

But “Silbermond” is not only a very popular German band but also very involved in charities or helping other young bands in the region or playing for benefit concerts. Their last project was supporting the band “Jenix” together with an initiative called “IdeenSounds” which is trying to establish young musicians independent from the international music market.
