Something Borrowed is a story about friendship, love and at what a high price you sometimes have to pay for love.

Darcy and Rachel have known each since their childhood together. Even back then Darcy has always been the luckier one – the prettier, more confident, more successful one. She always gets what she wants without any effort it seems. Rachel was always standing in her shadow. She is less pretty and confident and much less lucky. The only advantage Rachel has is that she’s four months older.

Now both of them live in New York and it is still the same. Darcy has a great PR job, while Rachel hates her job as a lawyer. And again Rachel is first to something – first to turn thirty which doesn’t look like a promising start into the summer to her. She’s thirty, which means old, she has a bad job, she is single while Darcy has a great job an even greater fiancĂ© and is still 29. But then the night of her birthday changes everything for Rachel…

After a fling Rachel has to decide between love and friendship. She has to decide to keep her high morals up or just live like she wants to. Things got even more complicated as the wedding is approaching fast and Dexter, Darcy’s dreamy fiancĂ©, plays an important role in Rachel’s emotional chaos.

As Rachel’s dreams and hopes are shattered by Dex she flees to England, visiting and old friend and starts to realize that maybe her perspective on Darcy has been wrong all these years…

As Rachel returns from England a huge surprise is waiting for her in the person of Dex. And just as Rachel thinks she is about to ruin Darcy’s life and nearly overwhelmed by guilt things turn out completely different than anyone could have expected.

Emily Giffin’s style of writing is light and humorous. She describes her characters in a great way and the reader can really relate to their feelings and decisions. Something Borrowed has a captivating plot with many surprises and an unexpected turn at the end.

The book is wildly entertaining, easy to read and hard to put down! Absolutely worth reading!

So my recommendation for you is: read it!

And I can tell you this: I will definitely check out the other books by Emily Giffin!
