“The Runaways” Soundtrack Review

RUNOS_Festival1-Sheet_27x40.inddOn April 9th, Joan Jett and The Runaways are making a comeback. The film, “The Runways” starring Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning will hit theaters. The soundtrack to the film digitally released on March 16th, and it will hit stores March 23rd.

The soundtrack features Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart singing songs originally done by “The Runaways” along with songs by David Bowie, The Sex Pistols, and of course, The Runaways.

Being a Joan Jett fan, I’ve got to say, I was impressed with the soundtrack. Dakota Fanning did an amazing job singing. I was surprised at how she sang on tracks that Joan lead, which I thought Kristen would have took charge of. There weren’t many tracks that showcased Kristen’s vocal talent, but she was good where she was heard.

The rest of the soundtrack was very well put together. One of the best 70’s punk soundtracks I’ve heard in a while. The first track “Roxy Roller” by Nick Glider was a fantastic opening track, and hearing some songs by the original “Runaways” was great. I think the only thing that annoyed me about the record was the bit of dialog in the middle of “Dead End Justice” between Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning’s character’s Joan and Cherie.

All in all, I recommend the soundtrack. Even if it’s not your style of music, you will find something great in “The Runaways” soundtrack guaranteed. I am looking forward to seeing the movie come April 9th.
