All Saints Hospital’s New Edition

recline

Meet Andrea Verdura, an amazingly talented up and coming actress from New York city who just so happens to have a spot on the 2nd season of Showtime’s dark comedy “Nurse Jackie” starring Edie Falco, Eve Best, and Peter Facinelli. We had the pleasure of chatting with Andrea a bit. See below why she is one of awholelotofwhatever.com’s “Interesting People You Should Know.”

Q: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

A: I was born in Florida, moved to NY when I was 6 y/o – I like to think of myself as a New Yorker without the accent! I am in general a creative person – always have been. In addition to being an actor, I paint, I have worked as a fashion designer, makeup artist, and can do just about anything creative – as long as it’s not music…though I wish I could!

Q: What made you want to start getting involved with the entertainment industry?

A: I grew up LOVING movies – all kinds - old movies, contemporary, horror, comedy, “b” films, etc…everything!! Biggest Star Wars geek ever!!

Q: What was your first job as an actor/extra?

A: My first experience in acting was in a school play in grammar school. My first gig as an extra in a film was in a film called “54″ directed by Mark Christopher – I portrayed an eccentric patron of the iconic Studio 54 in NYC – my outfit was this little metal chain bikini and headpiece. It was CRAZY, but fun!!I had always wanted to go to Studio 54 when I was growing up – but I was a kid and couldn’t go – so this was an opportunity to relive that time. From what I’ve heard from older friends, I’m sure it was a healthier environment being created on a set!

Q: Would you like to further pursue a career as an actor, or is this something you do as a hobby?

A: After a career as a Fashion Designer, I ABSOLUTELY am in pursuit of a career as a working actor.

Q: Can you tell us about how you landed a spot on “Nurse Jackie?”

A: When I decided to fully pursue an acting career, I registered with some of the casting companies in NY, one of which being CENTRAL CASTING – they are the ones that do “Nurse Jackie”. I saw that they were looking to cast for a possible recurring role of an EMT and got I selected!

Q: Had you seen the show before getting the part?

A: Nurse Jackie is my FAVORITE show on tv!! The writing is BRILLIANT, the cast is incredible, the direction is fierce, and Edie Falco is a god!!!

Q:If so, what did you think about the first season?

A: I was hooked from the first episode – which is rather unusual for me – I don’t really follow tv shows very much!!

Q: Who was your favorite character?

A: By far Edie Falco’s character of Nurse Jackie Peyton is my favorite. Nurse Jackie in her endless quest to make things right in the world at all costs yet having such tragic flaws is just a mosaic view of a person that happens to be incredibly beautiful to me! Eve Best as “Dr. O’Hara” is also a character that just kills me! Having said that, there isn’t a character on the show that I don’t like!! Everyone (including guests) are amazing!

Q:Who were you most excited to see on set?

A: Although I had briefly met Edie Falco in the streets of NY before (ironically just a couple of weeks prior to being cast), I would have to say her! She is a lovely person – polite, friendly, and very personable – just charming and completely attractive! But it was truly a thrill to see EVERYONE on set – Paul Schulze “Eddie”, Peter Facinelli “Dr. Fitch Cooper”, Eve Best “Dr. O’Hara”, Meritt Weaver “Zoey“, and a few special guest coming up for the new season!! And of course Director Paul Feig – who is a very cool, well dressed guy with a really strange brain (a total compliment)!!

Q: What was going on in the scene you were in?

A: Well without giving away anything confidential for the upcoming season, I can tell you that there were some pivotal moments of interaction between “Eddie and Coop” and “Jackie and Dr. O’Hara”, and “Zoey and her EMT admirer”! We were filming exterior locations at Baruch College (which is the facade for “All Saints Hospital”).

Q: Did anything crazy, funny, or unexpected happen on set?

A: Nothing so much out of the ordinary, but all I can say is that this upcoming season of “Nurse Jackie” should be quit a wild ride for our friends at All Saints and their friends and family!!! Everyone needs to hang on for the premiere on March 22, 2010!!1 I know I can’t wait!!!

Q: In terms of acting, who do you dream of working with someday?

A:I have to say, that I would LOVE to have a part on “Nurse Jackie” – that would be a dream!! Also…to work with George Lucas would allow me to die a happy person!! :)

* In addition, in a couple of weeks I will be starting a principle role in a new Web Series – ZKF – Zombie Killer Force (check it out on youtube) and I am scheduled to film a part as an ANESTHESIOLOGIST on “Mercy” next week.
Q: What would you say is the most rewarding part about what you do?

A: Being around and a part of the industry I want to be in and having the opportunity to learn a great deal!! It’s all just a step in the direction of where I want to be!! I’m grateful!

Q: What is the hardest part?

A: Wanting more…

Q: Is there anything else you would like to add?
A: I would like to add that from my experience, the people in the entertainment industry – cast and crew both – are of the most generous and personable people I have encountered in any of the industries that I have worked – and I have worked in many arenas!
