Jesse Gass – He’s been doin’ it so long, he may as well be your dad!

Recently I had the chance to talk with an upcoming artist named Jesse Gass. He’s literally being in the music industry since he was a baby.

Jesse was only 16 months old here!

Jesse was only 16 months old here!

So he’s got the goods. He’s got the smarts, and considering how long he’s been doing this, he may as well be older than some of the musicians you already listen to! Check out the interview!

Amber: So, I ran into you on myspace and let me tell you, you’re going to be huge! Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where are you from? How did you get started?

Jesse: Haha. Thanks Amber, Well my name is Jesse Gass, I’m a 22 year old male that just wants to make an impact with his music. I’m 6 foot 4 inches tall, with really long hair and I was born and still reside in Burbank, California. Which appears to be the breeding ground of past, present, and future actors and musicians. I knew being that tall left basketball a great option for me, but i didn’t like basketball all that much. I liked music! Amber, i feel like I can say I was born to do this. I learned Piano when i was 11, guitar when i was 17 and was acting in plays, singing, and going on auditions from 2nd grade to 8th grade. However, It wasn’t until i learned guitar, that i noticed that music, my passion, could be a possible career path.

Amber: I know your dad is also a musician. How big of an influence is he on your music?

Jesse: My dad is the man. I got the music bug from him. As well as being a very talented bassist and guitarist, he is also a well known Mix Producer in the music Industry. I spent a lot of time in recording studios when i was young, i loved going to work with my dad. I really enjoyed the environment and the vibes, it felt natural. Now he is my partner, and has helped to guide me on this melodic journey. I’ve learned so much from working with him already. We can’t wait for the future.

Amber: What other influences do you have?

Jesse: Well, I’ve come to say, “When life hands me lemons, I write about it”, Because my music is very influenced by my surrounding. I write and play what i feel, or have observed. My friends and family have been very compelling influences. Love and anger have also been very strong influences as well.

Amber: Are you currently working on any big projects that we should know about?

Jesse: Recently, my music was featured on a 2009 Webby Honoree, web series called “Poor Paul”. 4 Instrumental versions of my songs can be heard on the Season Finale Episode 43.“Poor Paul Episode 43″I also have a client that I’ve been working with and producing that should get big by the end of this year. A real cool chick with a Taylor Swift Vibe.

Amber: Most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you?

Jesse: Well, 7th grade i had a pretty embarrassing moment. I had decided to get my hair dyed. My hair stylist at the time had suggested this really cool looking blue/purple color, so i decided to go with his suggestion. Hours into the dying process, they pulled the hair net off my head to reveal the brightest pink hair i had ever seen. Apparently, he hadn’t calculated the mixture correctly. Needless to say, my middle school didn’t agree with my decision. I had to wear a hat to hide the pink distraction to be allowed on school grounds. That was a fun year. Haha.

Amber: Ok, this one’s really serious. Team Conan or Team Leno?

Jesse: Leno all the way!! Maybe I’m biased though, because we have family friends that work on the Leno show.

Amber: When you’re 87 and in a rocking chair and your grandkids say “did you accomplish everything you wanted?” If you say “yes” what would those things entail?

Jesse: I’d say, “Yes, i followed my dream. I went after something i wanted and i got it. I made platinum albums and got to jam with my dad at the same time!”

Amber: Top 3 favorite songs of all time?

Jesse: Tough question… I couldn’t pick just 3 favorites, but i love these three oldie but goodies… 1) Led Zeppelin – The Rover 2) The Doors – People are strange 3) Bob Marley – Jamming

Amber: Is there anything else that you’d like to tell the whatever world about yourself, your music, or your views on the world?

Jesse: Although I love all my music, my best work is currently being recorded. However, I’d suggest my music to those who like alternative, acoustic rock. If you like Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Donavon Frankenreiter, G. Love and Special Sauce, Matt Costa,Third Eye Blind, Smash Mouth, or Blink -182, check out my tunes. My Personal song suggestion of mine would be either “Ambition” or “Sing Along Song”. Personally, I think “Ambition” would be the perfect iphone commercial.

Amber: Well then, thanks for taking the time to talk to me, again, I think you’re going to be great! You rock!

Jesse: Thank you Amber. That was fun.
